General Dentistry Horizon Family Dental Care

General dentistry is a type of dental care where we evaluate, diagnose, and treat our patient’s dental concerns. Routine dental appointments are an integral part of general dental care. During these appointments, we offer dental cleanings, fillings, sealants, and fluoride treatment. Our general dental services are also preventative. They stop common dental problems such as gum disease, tooth decay, and cavities from developing. Scheduling regular visits to one of our offices can keep oral health issues at bay.

General dental care helps keep the teeth and gums healthy and staves off harmful infections and dental injuries:

Custom Mouthguard

Do you or a loved one play contact sports like lacrosse, basketball, or soccer? You need a sports mouthguard. Mouthguards help protect the teeth and gums from injury or damage during sports. A professional mouthguard that fits comfortably and properly in the mouth also makes it easier for athletes to communicate with their teammates.

Emergency Dentistry

Please call us in the event of a dental emergency. We can provide treatment for you as soon as possible. Some of the most common emergencies that we treat include lost permanent teeth, broken or damaged teeth and restorations, excessive bleeding, and toothaches. We want our patients to know that we are here for them to provide immediate treatment.

Family Dentistry

As family dentists, we are able to see multiple members of your family under one roof. We help patients of all ages receive the oral health care they need. Our team can also help patients learn the best methods of caring for their child’s smile.

Root Canals

A root canal is a dental procedure that removes infected dental pulp, made up of vessels and nerves, from the inside of a tooth. The inside of the tooth, called the chamber, is cleaned out and sealed to lessen the chance of reinfection. We also provide dental crowns to provide strength to teeth after root canal treatment.

Sedation Dentistry

Dental sedation is a treatment method that calms and relaxes patients for their dental procedures. Nitrous oxide is a common option used for oral health treatments.

Tooth Extractions

Tooth extractions are typically needed when patients have infected or impacted teeth. Removing these teeth helps create a healthier and more comfortable smile. Following a tooth extraction, we can provide dental restorations if a patient needs a replacement tooth or teeth.

General Dentistry FAQs

Learn answers to frequently asked questions about routine dental care below:

Can sports mouthguards treat teeth grinding?

Teeth clenching and grinding are common symptoms that accompany TMJ disorders. We offer nightguards for patients to wear that protect the teeth from further wear and tear caused by bruxism, or teeth grinding. The nightguards also alleviate jaw and tooth pressure and can help combat morning headaches and migraines. Sports mouthguards may be similar to nightguards, but they cannot be used to treat bruxism. Mouthguards that are used for sports are made of a thicker material and are only meant to prevent injuries during games.

Are dental extractions painful?

We help patients feel comfortable during tooth extraction treatment by offering local anesthetic and dental sedation. Anesthetic and sedation create a pain-free experience for patients during their dental extraction. Patients may feel sore after the extraction procedure, but we will provide them with a prescription and instructions on how to heal quickly and comfortably.
