You probably know that some foods can be bad for your teeth. Growing up, you probably heard that if you ate too many sweets your teeth could rot, or that you should drink lots of milk for strong bones. But did you know that some foods truly can help your teeth to be healthier?

While milk can help you to have strong bones, dairy products can also do much more for your body. Cheese could help you prevent cavities by reducing the level of acids in your mouth, and it can stimulate your saliva production to help clean your mouth of food particles. Sugar-free gum and candy can have similar results with increasing your saliva.

Almonds could be a source of calcium and protein. Other nuts or seeds may also prove to be beneficial like pumpkin and sunflower seeds, cashews, pecans and walnuts. These options could be enjoyed on their own, mixed in with a salad or other meal and snack alternatives.

Vegetables and fruits should also make the list what could make your mouth healthier. Many of them, like apples, carrots, celery etc., also promote saliva production in your mouth as well as their other beneficial qualities. Leafy greens like kale are rich in calcium which can help strengthen the enamel of your teeth. Apples have been called “nature’s toothbrush,” although they can’t replace the full benefits of actually brushing your teeth.
