The presence of hardened tartar on your teeth near the gumline is generally considered to be the leading cause of gum disease. This is often linked to inconsistencies in daily oral hygiene practices.

It’s very important to brush your teeth each morning and night, as well as make a conscious effort to floss at least once per day. This basic oral hygiene routine is designed to clear away bacterial deposits and sugar residue before they can harden into tartar.

Keep in mind that there are some minor variations in dental floss. Finding the one that you prefer will help keep you encouraged to floss every day.

Micro-braided nylon and extruded monofilament are the two most common types of dental floss. Some floss types also have a flavor or a wax coating. None of these differences make one type of dental floss more effective than the other. Just find a type of floss that you enjoy using so that you will floss regularly.

When you floss, make sure to clean between each of your teeth along the gumline as well as behind each of your rear molars. These areas are sometimes ignored, yet they can trap a significant amount of plaque and bacteria.
